100 Mile Sliders are proud to announce that we will be hosting a Clay Webster clinic, August 20-21st, at the beautiful Easy Go Ranch in Lac La Hache . 

All spots are currently full, but if you are interested in participating, , please contact Tiffany Vaughn (tiffany-vaughan@hotmail.com, or Mandy Pincott (mpincott@live.com), to be put on a waiting list.  

Clay Webster is one of Canada's premiere reining trainers, and he highly sought after for his popular clinics.

He conducts several clinics each year and has been invited to teach his clinics at such prestigious equine extravanganzas as  as the Mane Event in Chilliwack, BC, and Farmfair at Northlands Park, Edmonton, AB. WOW!! What a whirl wind month it has been!! First the Horse Bazaar, the next week end Carl Woods, the next, Lynda Smith, and this past weekend, Vern Sapergia!! Not to mention the numerous other clinics and schooling shows that were also running over the past month in other locations. For anyone interested in learning about reining and or wanting to improve their horsemanship skills, there is no shortage of opportunities here in the Cariboo!! And if you haven't had enough yet, check out the Brandt Ranch schooling show next Sunday, the Prince George Reining Show the first weekend in May along with a Doug Mills Clinic in Williams lake that same weekend, and the first WCRA show, Rockslide, the second weekend in May!! Casandra and I had the opportunity to attend the Vern Sapergia clinic held at Sharon Gates wonderful facility in Hanceville this past weekend. It was an excellent clinic, and Casandra got tons of opportunity to ride and learn with Vern in 3 separate sessions over the course of the weekend. It was nice to see that a lot of the basic concepts that we learned from Lynda were reinforced by Vern in his teaching program. Hopefully, Casandra will pass on some of what she learned in our Thursday night riding sessions!!

A ton of thanks, to Sharon for giving Casandra the opportunity to participate in this clinic, and to Crystal for offering us a place to stay!!

Thanks again to Laura for providing the pictures from the Lynda Smith clinic. I think everyone came away from the clinic with lots of new information and a renewed sense of excitement about reining. 

Sixteen eager participants slid into 100 Mile House April 9-11 to get some horsemanship and reining tips from reining trainer Lynda Smith, of Langley BC. The participants got to put their newfound knowledge to the test on Sunday, in a schooling show, judged by Lynda. The clinic and show were held at the Lakeside Equestrian Center, and despite the biting cold on Friday, the rest of the weekend proved to be perfect and sunny and we were able to use the great footing in the outdoor arena.

It is nice to see that we are getting more people taking the opportunities available locally from some of the top quality clinicians that have been putting on local clinics. Thanks to EASY GO Ranch in Lac la Hache for hosting Carl Woods this weekend. The clinic was well attended by many of our Slider members. As well, our own clinic with Lynda Smith is FULL!! So exciting!! We hope that if you have not been able to attend this clinic, you will still come out to watch, and if possible volunteer some time this weekend to help out!

Sharon Gates of Wildwood Reining will be hosting a Vern Sapergia Reining clinic Friday April 16-Sunday April 18th at her facility in Hanceville. 

You will not get another opportunity to see such a world renowned reining trainer so close to home!!

Vern Sapergia spawned a reining dynasty, producing a family full of world class reiners, including Shawna  and Cody Sapergia, both of whom have achieved national and international reining success.

100 Mile Sliders are pleased to offer 3 days of packed reining fun, from beginner to advanced riders. Join Lynda Smith of Maple Ridge Level 2 EC Reining Coach and BC Horse Council Coach of the Year (2000), for a Friday/Saturday reining/horsemanship clinic and a Sunday reining schooling show. 

Reining is designed to highlight the athletic ability of the “ranch type” horse in the confines of the show arena. Often referred to as “western dressage”, it requires great horsemanship to achieve the willfully guided or controlled horse that shows no resistance.

Of course most of us have not achieved that level, and that is why we all need a lesson or two to get started or to get better. So please join us in making our first clinic/show a success.   

Clinic will run as follows, with 2-3 people per group. Please let us know if you are a beginner rider or you have a very beginner horse and we will try to group accordingly.

Here is a some information on Lynda Smith, who will be conducting a reining/horsemanship clinic, in 100 Mile on April 9/10, and then judging our Reining Schooling show on April 11th.

Lynda Smith attained her Western Coaching Level 1 in 1997. In 1998 & 1999 she apprenticed with an established Reining Horse trainer. Also in 1999, Lynda Smith and APHA 'Justin's Tyke' were named WCRA Open & Novice Horse Open Champions. She also won the BCRA Breeders Classic 3 yr. old Futurity on 'Docz Sunup Play'.

The fall of 1999, saw Lynda move to the Lower Mainland of BC, to start her own business, Mane Stream Reining. After spending countless hours traveling, to teach Horsemanship to all that would listen, Lynda was honored by the Horse Council of BC as "Coach of the Year 2000". She successfully completed her Level 2 Reining Coach certification in 2001.

Competing on National and International levels, Lynda Smith has proven herself as a competitor winning a number of Open Reining Championships through 2007. Notably, competing in the NRHA Futurity 2002 on 'Lacys Dun Dual'n' then the pair earned 5 Reining Canada Top 10 honors in 2003.  WCRA Open awards in 2004 with 'Ole San Cocoa Lena', then 3 Yr Old Futurity Wins on 1/2 Arab "Miss Mellie" & Appaloosa "Savanna Jackson" against a field of Quarter Horses in 2007.

As a coach, Lynda has encouraged over 160 riders to enter the Reining pen and become a part of the sport.  From Green as Grass beginners through Rookie to Non-Pro, she has produced calm, focussed riders who excel at their levels.  Lynda's patience and clear explanations make her riding lessons and clinics an exciting learning experience.

After a 2 year break from riding and training, 2010 has seen Lynda return to the Reining world. She currently has 15 regular students in the Lower Mainland of BC and is finishing AQHA "Suddenly Smart" (owned by Sherea Williams) to be her Open competition horse this year. Lynda Smith is a certified EC Level 2 Reining Coach. She is the process of becoming certified to EC Level 3 Reining as well as pursuing her NRHA Judges Card.

We are proud to announce that we will be hosting a Lynda Smith reining/horsemanship clinic, backed with a reining schooling show, on FRIDAY, APRIL 9th-SUNDAY, APRIL 11th. This is a great opportunity to get some quality instruction, and then to put your new learning to the test in a non stressful, supportive setting, with constructive feedback. Clinic participants will sign up in groups of 1-3 for one and a half hour sessions with Lynda on Friday and Saturday. Then on Sunday, we will have a schooling show, with many WCRA modified classes, for beginners, as well as a freestyle class, and an full NRHA pattern class, for the brave at heart!!

Jarvis has a lifelong involvement in showing reining horses. Jarvis first entered the show ring on a reining horse at the age of six, and from there his love of the sport and competition only grew. Jarvis showed horses as a youth and non pro until he was 19 years old earning nearly $20,000.

In 2001, Jarvis gave up his non pro status and went to Purcell, Oklahoma and train horses under NRHA hall of fame inductee, Doug Milholland.

After a year, Jarvis returned home to continue training horses with his Father Jaydee Anderson. Jaydee has been training horses 25+ years. Jarvis gives praise to Jaydee for the knowledge and experienced he has gained, and gives credit to his mother Janis, for his over all love of horses.

At this point registration is only open to our WCRA Kamloops chapter members. Registration for everyone else will be on a first come first served basis, starting in February. I will post information here as soon as it is available!
